BORGHESE MUSEUM AND GALLERY

Galleria Borghese, Rome: perhaps one of the most iconic collections, a place rich in art that the whole world envies us. The Galleria Borghese Museum in the capital has at its core sculptures, mosaics, paintings and masterpieces ranging from works by Caravaggio to those of Raphael, Titian, Correggio, Antonello da Messina, Giovanni Bellini and sculptures by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Canova. The 'queen of all private collections' was created by Cardinal Scipione Borghese (1576-1633), the most passionate and knowledgeable collector of his time. Museo Borghese with its collections and villa were acquired by the Italian State in 1902; in the 1990s the complex underwent a long restoration.
